More about this month's topic:  Navigating Complexity

Synopsis:

Navigating Complexity: A Practice Guide (2014) is a complementary document to PMI’s foundational standards. This practice guide provides guidance to organizations and practitioners on how to manage programs and projects that are impacted by complexity. This practice guide exemplifies PMI’s continuing commitment to support the project management profession with a defined body of knowledge (PMI, 2014, p. v).

The purpose of this practice guide is to help practitioners and organizations navigate complexity by providing the following:

  • Essential organization considerations when dealing with complexity to realize portfolio strategic initiatives,
  • A practical view of how complexity can be categorized and causes of complexity understood,
  • An easy to use complexity assessment, and
  • Useful practices, complexity scenarios, and guidance to transform insights into actions and manage the effects of complexity through an action plan (PMI, 2014, p. 2)

The practice guide is available as a free download for PMI members at:

https://www.pmi.org/pmbok-guide-standards/practice-guides/complexity

Download a copy, look it over, and join other PMI members at the round table in discussing the topic of complexity in project management.
